Have you ever seen the mist drifting slowly in the grass
To mourn the morning's pass on silence?
Have you ever seen the trees throw themselves against the wind
Or heard the leaf's refrain in winter, in a whisper
You silly people have no tact,
All that you do you do for love
But here's the thing you lack.
There is a loveliness that lonely eyes can see
It is the love that blinds us.
Have you ever heard the song that the birds sing winterlong
Could their feet be wrong for dancing?
Have you ever seen a face like starlight on a lake,
Or like a morning drowned in sunlight, at last light.
Here on this little spinning stone,
Could it be we're all alone,
Or never on our own.
There is a freedom only loneliness can give,
It is the love that binds us.
